Over the years we've done all kinds of things, to test tools and techniques, experiment with interesting customer requests, and just to have fun! Here are some of the highlights.
An exercise in animated Normal Maps. This method employs several Normal Maps animated in layers, depending on which emotional expression is in play, and on which area of the face.
In this case, the face was divided into four quadrants, and the amplitude of the Normal Maps automatically scaled with the appropriate facial expression.
Another example of Normal Mapping, but this time with no change in the amplitude of the maps - this was about pushing detail to see how realistic the skin could be on a relatively low-poly model, and to find out how well Hair effects would map with the underlying skin.
With the advent of the Evolver avatar generator, in early 2009 we couldn't resist putting some characters together to see what happened. Latte Lingo brings 6 Evolver characters together for some silly fun, across age, gender, and ethnic boundaries. Bottoms Up!
